Dr. DeLong graduated with a D.M.D. from Washington University Dentistry program in 1972. He then completed his Residency in Oral Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1975. During his residency he completed a Master of Science in Oral Surgery. At the completion of his Residency in Oral Surgery, Dr. DeLong joined Great River Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (formerly West Third Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery).
Dr. DeLong achieved board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1978 and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is the past president of the Dubuque County Dental Society, the Dubuque District Dental Society, the Tri-State Dentistry for Children, as well as the Iowa Oral Surgery Society. While serving as President of the Iowa Oral Surgery Society he was also a delegate for twelve years representing oral and maxillofacial surgeons for the State of Iowa to the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS). He is currently a life time member in the American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
During his career, Dr. Delong also enjoyed working with the Healing the Children Organization providing dental care to children in Colombia as well as teaching responsibilities in the Philippines. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa for 15 years.
Since retiring Dr. DeLong has been spending time in Door County, WI as well as Naples, FL. He enjoys wood working, hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family while still participating in community affairs as a member of the Board of Director’s for the Dubuque Art Museum.
