What are some common types of digital imaging?
The most commonly used digital images are X-rays. Once a sensor captures the radiograph, the image is uploaded to a high-resolution monitor or television where it can be saved in digital format. Viewing radiographs on large monitors means that images are crisp and detailed. It also means that our surgeon can zoom in on areas if necessary. X-rays are great for displaying the health of hard tissue like the roots of teeth and bone.
Another common imaging tool is cone beam technology, which produces three-dimensional images. Cone beam CTs provide a comprehensive look at the oral health system and face in true-to-life dimensions. These images might be useful for treating facial trauma, full-mouth rehabilitation, and the placement of dental implants.
Intraoral cameras are another imaging technology used by our practice. These cameras can show live images and capture still (photographic) images. Intraoral cameras are useful for getting a detailed look at hard to reach places – especially at the back of the mouth. This technology is helpful for oral cancer screenings and patient education.
Our practice is committed to using state of the art technology to enhance patient care. Call us today to reserve a consultation with one of our skilled oral surgeons.
